GasBuddy Data Privacy: Empowering the Consumer

|

From the desk of the CEO, Sarah McCrary:

GasBuddy’s foundation is about empowering the consumer. GasBuddy started as a website for frustrated drivers to share information about gas prices in order to help each other save money on one of the biggest household expenses. We made fuel price data transparent to the consumer.

With the advent of smartphones, came the creation of the GasBuddy app, making it possible for drivers to get real-time information on the best-priced fuel stations near them while on the road using location technology.

Even as technology has changed, our core mission has not: Empowering the consumer

There has been a lot of talk about data privacy in the news so we want to make it clear that you have full control over the data shared with GasBuddy.

Your location data is opt-in. As in, when you download the GasBuddy app, the GasBuddy location data features are not turned on. They will only be turned-on by you. We will never collect or share your location data unless you explicitly allow us to. See the screens below:

We use the best practices shared to us from Apple and the Google Play Store, and share the standard practices of location data at app companies where we only track geo-location if the user permits us.
Users can toggle their location settings and GasBuddy data privacy permissions any time in the app settings. Our “Drives” feature is completely opt-in.

In addition to our own best practices, we comply with the growing regulatory requirements, such as Nevada and California privacy legislation, and will continue to be compliant as the regulations evolve.

Bottomline: We will always be on the consumers’ side, with your best interest in mind.

Thanks,
Sarah McCrary

GasBuddy’s full privacy policy.

For budget-minded drivers, GasBuddy is the travel and navigation app that is used by more North American drivers to save money on gas than any other. Unlike fuel retailer apps, as well as newer apps focused on fuel savings, GasBuddy covers 150,000+ gas stations in North America, giving drivers 27 ways to save on fuel. That’s why GasBuddy has been downloaded nearly 90 million times – more than any other travel and navigation app focused on gas savings.
