The quality of coffee served at gas stations across the country have seen ongoing improvements. GasBuddy data scientists reviewed more than 3 million user ratings covering more than 11,000 retail locations where gasoline is sold, and found that 53 percent of GasBuddy users have given positive ratings in the coffee category, up 3 percent from 2016. While negative ratings have continued to drop year-over-year, currently at 10 percent.

“We’re thrilled to be #1 as the Best Gas Station Coffee destination in the country and we have to thank our loyal customers for sharing their experiences with the GasBuddy community,” said Sandrine Paquet, Marketing Manager, Quebec East and Atlantic, Couche Tard/Circle K Convenience Stores. “Our daily commitment is to provide a destination where drivers can find premium food and drinks, day or night. This means a great variety of espresso based beverages from our high-quality machines like cappuccino, mochaccino and latte and we’re excited to maintain our position in the coming years.”

“The fuel and convenience store industry will continue to capture market share from QSRs and cafes as their food and coffee programs improve,” said Frank Beard, convenience store and retail trends analyst at GasBuddy. “Consumers are looking for ways to save time without sacrificing quality, and these top-rated brands are making it easy to get caffeine, fuel, and more in a one-stop-shop destination.”

In fact, retail gasoline brand Esso recently announced their 300th location offering the full Tim Hortons menu, as the company moves towards “a more complete consumer convenience.” Co-op has also put emphasis on their coffee program promoting that their “beans are roasted in Western Canada exclusively for Co-op by our master roaster.”

Consumers can review the c-store and their coffee directly on the free GasBuddy app.

Methodology

GasBuddy examined ratings and reviews data in the GasBuddy app from March 2016 – September 2019 focusing on the coffee category. To qualify for the overall rating, a retail brand must have at least 250 locations listed on the GasBuddy platform.

For budget-minded drivers, GasBuddy is the travel and navigation app that is used by more North American drivers to save money on gas than any other. Unlike fuel retailer apps, as well as newer apps focused on fuel savings, GasBuddy covers 150,000+ gas stations in North America, giving drivers 27 ways to save on fuel. That’s why GasBuddy has been downloaded nearly 90 million times – more than any other travel and navigation app focused on gas savings.
